Scanning Made Easy with Office Lens
Reviewed on 5/11/2020
Microsoft Office Lens is a reliable tool that provides scanning services for free but with maximum quality. On top of all these perks, it's just a click away from your smartphone. I use it during meetings when I don't have with me my laptop, or at moments when I need to take a super clear shot on any document such as memos, announcements, or even receipts at supermarkets or hardware stores which I could use as a proof of purchase or for reimbursements.
Thanks, Microsoft!
Pros
Microsoft Office Lens solves the day whenever a need for crystal-clear scanning of photos or documents arises. It's the go-to application when you're out and suddenly feel the need for a handy mobile scanner, realizing that it's an application in your smartphone.
The tool is easy-to-use although the walk-through tutorial upon installing it is of great help too. The buttons' functions are simple yet so powerful. I use it a lot in scanning documents and taking snapshots of words written on a whiteboard.
It's also a recommended software for taking random shots whose quality are at par with those of other top applications out in the market, or maybe better.
Cons
The scanning feature is one of the best and it's so reliable when used. If I may suggest though, the focusing task is sometimes a little annoying especially if the correct shape or outline is not easily met. But overall, it's best at what it does which is performing like an actual scanning machine.

Reviewed on 14/11/2020
Pros
I have been using Microsoft office lens for more than two years now. I find it is a great improvement to what I was previously using. The Best feature that I like about this app is that it auto detects and crops the subject during picture clicking and saves time, unlike other apps where auto cropping is done as a post processing part. Being a free tool, office lens offers OCR feature for exporting to text format in PDF and Word, which is often missing in the free versions of peer apps . Thirdly, It doesn't add a watermark to the output files.
Cons
The user should be allowed to tweak the parameters that control the picture quality. Some peer apps have the option of regulating the contrast, sharpness, details and brightness as soon as the pictures are clicked and cropped. Second, office lens should support more options than scanning from just documents, business cards, etc (for example, powerpoints and greeting cards offered in peer apps).

Confusing Set-Up
Reviewed on 19/11/2019
Took months to get set-up all the way completed as there was an issue with the Microsoft customer service reps not being able to assist with set-up or integration. Very frustrating experience.
Pros
Microsoft is one of the world's leading software's, so it integrates with most other products nicely.
Cons
The customer service for set-up was awful, took weeks to get everything properly set up and the customer service reps don't seem to know what they are talking about.

A really great digitizing app
Reviewed on 19/2/2023
I sometimes use it to digitize visual media in order to obtain a high-quality rendering. You can scan documents in high quality, convert handwritten text into digital text, and edit it in Word, PowerPoint, or Onenote. I highly recommend it
Pros
Microsoft Lens is a really great app. With Microsoft Lens, it is very easy to convert a physical, visual medium into a digital file. With a single click of your smartphone photo, you transform your visual support into an editable digital file. I like its scanning accuracy and its sharing and integration features with Microsoft Office applications. It integrates very easily with other Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Onenote, Powerpoint, etc. Or, with its scanning accuracy, you can simply keep the rendered file or share it. Also, it is possible to process a file already in its gallery to make it editable. Microsoft Office Lens is an application to try at least once
Cons
I have not had any particular problems with this product. I don't have any recommendations to make at this time

What I think about Microsoft Office Lens
Reviewed on 27/2/2021
I use it to scan images with texts that I want to keep saved (newsletters, documents, etc.). The repositioning of the photo is great and helps to make all text readable.
Pros
Easy to use, good filters and scaling to scan images. Direct and effective storage and sharing.
Cons
Perhaps the theme and layout could be made more interesting, customizable and with a more pleasant appearance.

For scanning and organization your files
Reviewed on 17/3/2023
If you need to scan documents and put them in order, Microsoft Lens is a helpful program. The app's numerous capabilities make it simple to scan, organize, and distribute paper documents. Users, however, should be cognizant of the free version's constraints and the premium version's membership price.
Pros
This app works in tandem with other Microsoft products including OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams. Users can easily save and share scanned documents across all Microsoft products in this way. When scanning papers, Microsoft Lens employs smart algorithms to improve the quality. In order to produce a clean and legible scan, the program can identify the document's borders and make the necessary adjustments to the image.
Cons
The program only provides 5GB of free space for storing scanned documents. If you need more space, you'll have to switch to a paid account. The app's only two document-sharing options are email and Microsoft cloud storage. Users are unable to collaborate on papers using third-party networks or software.

Nuanced but has its uses
Reviewed on 20/3/2023
As a freelancer writer, the potential to allow my clients to send over images of ideas they have already come up with in a form that is of a compiled sheet greatly helps me. The ability to have images shared across my entire Microsoft workspace in an easy fashion is of great convenience and invaluable to keeping my ideas together.
Pros
Microsoft Lens will work and shine in businesses with a predominantly Microsoft work ecosystem. The main allure is the ability to capture images using the cameras of any device with the Microsoft Lens app installed and then immediately export the images to any Microsoft app. The app itself also has the ability to highlight and enhance certain types of images eg. tables or graphs in order to make them more legible for easier document processing. With Microsoft Lens the opportunity to enhance an already existing Microsoft setup is an invaluable tool.
Cons
Microsoft Lens whilst it does enhance a business with a majority usage of Microsoft product will not greatly affect the work or help a business with a small number of Microsoft product users. Furthermore, there are alternatives to the app with some offering more options such as the ability to capture images at higher resolution. The app excels in one respect and that is the integration of the app with the wider Microsoft ecosystem.

A removable scanner that is very practical to use and transport
Reviewed on 24/12/2020
Microsoft Office Lens has always been able to fill the gap when I needed a scanner at the office or on the road.
The application is very well managed despite some bugs that are still quite rare. I therefore recommend Microsoft Office Lens at 90% to scan all your documents in emergency or not as well as to scan business cards, flyers and other documents.
Pros
Microsoft Office Lens is a reliable tool that offers free but high quality scanning services.
In addition to all these advantages, it is available on your smartphone.
Microsoft Office Lens solves the problem whenever you need to scan photos or documents in a very clear and precise way.
When you are on the move and suddenly feel the need for a scanner thanks to Microsoft Office Lens you can scan everything you need.
The functions of the buttons are simple yet so powerful.
I use it a lot to scan documents and take snapshots of words written on a whiteboard.
Cons
Despite all these advantages, Microsoft Office Lens also has some drawbacks such as a loading time that is sometimes too long.
Or the difficulty to scan the entire document even if it works well most of the time.

Worth a revisit
Reviewed on 14/5/2022
I had used Lens early in its life when it helped to capture documents and put them in our OneDrive. It was simple and straight-forward. The feature i appreciated most at the time was its ability to crop at an angle to account for the angle at which items were being captured.
It was earlier this year that i had a colleague recommend revisiting it. As we had been thoroughly impressed with the improvements Edge and other products had been making with Immersive Reader, they demonstrated the improvements in the text capture and output to Immersive Reader that had developed since last I looked at Lens. It has now become a tool at the ready when I am given a hand out to read and I augment my slow reading speed with the help of Immersive reader and the read aloud tools.
We have since begun looking at the application of using it with teachers that have print outs that may need to be digitized for students that need them presented in a digital format and the teacher cannot get to the scanner. It is nice to have the tool available when they need it.
Pros
The immersive reader. I have been using lens to capture and convert materials to use in Immersive Reader with the Read Aloud feature. The ability to extract text and convert it to the Immersive Reader is impressive. And then the functionality of Immersive Reader to assist in reading and hearing it read has improve my retention and focus .
Cons
Some of the export workflows do not seem as intuitive as I'd like. When capturing something to share with a student it is harder to choose some of the shared locations in iOS. This is relatively moot as the features for Lens are often also found in the OneNote app.

I used to scan all my documents using my HP scanned which is great but very time consuming to finish all my work, one day I downloaded Microsoft Office Lens and it was extremally easy to use, very fast and gave a pretty good scan !! (might vary with different phones and cameras).
Pros
The app offers a lot of features and I didn't need most of them, but I very much like the ability to pause the scan to modify or check the pic before moving on, the algorithm that detects the page is almost flowless and gets it right every time and the ability to change the colors and modify saturation and stuff was very usefull.
Cons
A lot of the scans were over exposed to light and the app even add more saturation making them hard to read, you can always turn off the automatic enhancements in case you see it messing up.

It helps create pdf's without the use of a scanner which is very convenient.
Pros
It's very easy to create different types of documents through this app (I have used it primarily for creating pdf's).
The app is very easy to use and saves the files within the app.
Files can easily be shared through all the options available in the phone, like WhatsApp, Gmail, etc.
Cons
The app is fine but the major requirement to create good pdf's is that the smartphone's camera should be good.
If the camera is not clean or isn't a good one, then the user will encounter problems relating to the clarity of pdf.

Microsoft Lens have really helped me in my official work. This is one software that I intend to always keep in my phone. This really helped me to do my office work more effectively and efficiently mainly with the OCR feature. The availability of this application on mobile phones is so comforting for the user.
Pros
I love the OCR feature of this software. It is really efficient and accurate. The auto cropping after loading or taking an image is simply outstanding as it automatically tries to compensate the error in angle of the image. It enables the images to be saved more clearly with correct angle. The OCR feature reading an image file was something amazing.
Cons
I love most parts of this software but I just wish that if it could also convert other files other than image file only, it would have been an all in one solution.

This software/app integrates easily with your mobile office and various applications such as One Note, PowerPoint, PDF etc. It was easy to install and use. On the whiteboard option it really clears up your pictures for a presentation. It easily saves your Photo or Document to multiple platforms. Great for taking Photo's of business cards and receipts and keeping them in one folder.
