Very easy to use and takes care of everything

I've had a great experience with SurePayroll. It is easy to handle paying my employees and making sure taxes are covered too.
Pros
Setting up SurePayroll was easy (a rep guided me through it) and now it takes care of everything for me. I go and manually input my hourly employees time in every two weeks, but otherwise the entire process is pretty automated.
Cons
No cons - I haven't had any issues with SurePayroll!

Pros
Being a small business owner requires me to wear a lot of hats. SurePayroll helps make my payroll processing hat very easy! I'm so thankful for the ease and attention of SurePayroll.
Cons
The week-to-week ease cannot be beat. My only con with the software was a tax form mishap when I first transferred over.

Surepayroll DEVASTATED my business. DO NOT USE if you care about compliance

We are trying to navigate the remote working situation as many business are I imagine. It is a grey area which state to tax employees in as the company is based in California and some of our workers decided to reside in other states. One employee decided to stay in New York, so we decided to amend his returns to reflect his NYC residence, seemed like the right thing to do. Surepayroll charged a large fee for this amendment. I then received a $27,000 fine from New York for not having workers comp insurance. Now the NY website says teachers don't need workers comp, which makes sense as our tutors teach on their computer in the bedroom and have no chance of injury. However as an out of state business it turns out they require it for all employees. Surepayroll gave NO guidance on compliance whatsoever. Once I received the fine they did NOTHING to help me resolve it, other than send an insurance salesperson my way. All decent payroll firms help with compliance, switch to Gusto they force you to be in compliance before you set up an account. This fine is forcing us to close our doors in New York. The entire reason I pay a payroll service is to help navigate situations like this. Using this service is probably the worst business decision I've ever made. I now owe $27,000 to NY which I absolutely don't have and don't expect to have anytime soon. This has been devastating. Surepayroll made it clear that they could care less about resolving the issue.

Somewhat easy to use, though the website is really cheap looking.
Cons
They do not assist with state compliance at all.

Exactly what I needed in a payroll service

Great customer service, ease of use, simple navigation and customer service is always available. With me being a small business owner the monthly fees are great and within range.
Pros
Time clock feature is simple and easy to use and navigate. I really like the geolocation feature. It allows me to give the employees the ability to clock in using their cell phones while providing the location of the actual punch.
Cons
I have not experienced any dislikes thus far

Great option for your business!

Overall SurePayroll was easy to set up, is easy to manage, and is a great solution for our current business needs. However when coordinating with our worker's compensation plan, there has been some disconnect, but I'm sure this will end up getting resolved.
Pros
The dashboard provides the best look into the current status of your ongoing payroll.
Cons
While the layout is user friendly, it should be easier to view options for handling situations outside the normal payroll cycle.

Easy and Efficient Payroll for small businesses

Excellent and Easy to use!
Pros
It's very easy to use and I can run payroll in about 15 minutes. Always accurate and have never had any technical problems. Customer service is always available.
Cons
The security feature is annoying that I can't text anymore, I always have to be called with a password and I have not had the time to get it fixed after office hours.

Kudos to SurePayroll

When I created my PLLC, I needed to find a payroll program/company to handle my payroll. My financial planner recommended SurePayroll and ADP. SurePayroll beat ADP on all levels...sales, pricing and customer support. So glad I chose SurePayroll as I appreciate the easy access to support; everyone knows their product and has answered my questions quickly and clearly.

I found the software easy to use and the support is exceptional.

I can't think of anything that has been a problem.

Overall, I like SurePayroll but I'm not as big a fan as I once was and not sure the people that do the setup are as knowledgeable as other PR sales staff are.
Pros
For a small business without many benefits to manage, it is a good choice and a cost effective one.
Cons
All things are not intuitive or easily explained. I've worked with Paychex (your mothership) and ADP for many years, the latter being my least favorite, Paychex being the best. But some of your changes are clunky and if you aren't used to the software you may go down the wrong road only to have all the info deleted. Example, you enter payroll and then realize you need to change something (client sends last minute email with a change) and instead of being able to 'save' and make those changes, which in my mind should be able to just update in the payroll info, you lose all your input. That doesn't make sense to me.
I think users would have more success if the sales person OR a training person, for new users, had a short session that would go through some of these processes. ALSO, not all customer service people are made the same. For the most part, the people I have talked to have been helpful, but it's been a 50/50 experience. One woman I wanted to hang up on her because she did not have a good attitude.
The other problem I had was when a new client was set up. An employee was missed even though the 941's & DE9C's were forwarded - my client was charged for adding that missing employee and when I asked on several occasions, HOW DID YOU BALANCE (which you couldn't have since you would use the 4 qtrs of reports) I never got an answer. I asked that the charge for corrections be shared and the fee was cut in half. In my mind this was an error on your side.

Have been trying to cancel for 6 months

They are associated with RunPayRoll.com, this is just an 'updated' version, same login. Anyways, my business closed its doors at the end of 2021, in January I started trying to get my W-2s out and was unable to login to the site. I kept getting a security error come up and ask me to verify via text or call.. No worries. But they never came in, I tried multiple times.
I called their support, waited on the phone for over an hour (it was during peak season but still). Finally I was able to at least get the W2s sent to me and was told to cancel my account I needed to login and do it. Again, can't login because the system was not sending out text/calls to my number. They even verified and confirmed it was the right number.
The support person told me to email in to request cancellation, the email back said "Login to the system and cancel from there." I emailed back, saying I couldn't and I'm not going to spend another 2 hours on the phone trying to cancel.
That was in Feburary, and since then they've been taking money out of my account each month even with NO employees in the system. Finally I got someone on the phone and they canceled my account once we went through the steps that I'd done 100x by now to try and login.
So from Feb-July I was paying for a system that did not work, would not even let me login. I've requested a refund, but yeah that probably won't happen.
Stay away, this is really a bad business. Especially when dealing with payroll.

Better of the worse - No customer service

I was with Gusto for one month, and came right back because as the title of my review is "Worse of the worsts."
Pros
SurePayroll has been around for a long time. I used to run payroll for my company with over thirty employee, back in 2004. The portal had always been user friendly and full of features I needed like multi-state filing etc. Now, I use the portal to conduct payroll for just myself.
Cons
SurePayroll has been charging me $55 per month for payroll. Their website (SurePayroll.com/pricing) clearly states $29.99 per month + $5 per employee. Since I use QuickBooks integration, that is additional $4.99, which should bring my bill to $40 per month. I have been unable to get this issue corrected. The support emails go to this black hole with no tracking, as there is no Inbox built into the portal. They try to resolve issues by calling you back at their schedule, which may not be convenient to you. Calling them back and finding a human to talk to, is almost impossible during the tax season. Most issues like mine can be simply resolved over an email exchange.
Support used to be great during the original [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] time. Since PayChex took it over, the support has gone down the tube. I won't be surprised if PayChex's end game is to merge the product with PayChex Flex. The company address still says Glenview IL, however, the letters sent to this address are being forwarded to PayChex's corporate office in Rochester NY. Don't expect a reply from there. There is a guy, [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] at SurePayroll, who always responds to a negative review. I even sent him an email to ask the correct corporate address. He never responded.

SurePayroll is a good payroll company to use but it is very outdated

My overall experience is good. Their customer support is good. I've never had any issues with their customer service.
Pros
If you want a basic payroll system then SP will do the job. The software is fairly easy to use. I've been using SP for 18 years and for the most part, it works well. I love having access to any reports I need almost instantly.
Cons
My biggest gripe with SP is it hasn't kept up with the times. It's the same software that I've been using for the last 18 years which means it doesn't have many bells and whistles. It doesn't integrate any time records...I have to use a separate service to keep track of time. It doesn't work well on a smartphone or tablet. You can't give more than one person access to the system (no bookkeeper and CPA...just one) You have to verify through text every time you try and log in. Any time you change employee info you have to reset your payroll info and start all over again. You can't have too many line items on the paystub. You can't change the names of some on-the-line items.

I love that I can pick up the phone and be walked through the process. Instead of doing it for me, they teach me the "how to's" Always so professional and helpful

Overall, this program provides a great experience and the customer service is top notch. I almost never have to wait on hold to talk to someone. I would highly recommend to other users.
Pros
I recently needed to update our banking information just before payroll was due. I was unaware that we needed a bank letter, however, once the letter was submitted the new bank information was uploaded and approved within an hour - and we still made the deadline for payroll cutoff. I like the reporting function as well as the categories of active, inactive and terminated employees.
Cons
In the instance of printing multiple weeks paystub for 1 employee, you have to go back to the reports for each week ending, choose the employee, choose the weekending, generate paystub. I would like to see the option to chose multiple weeks for 1 employee and generate all at once.

SurePayroll advantages

Since incorporating it in 2018, we are pleased with the overall performance. When we had tax issues, customer service went to bat for us and resolved even the small issues with their back up documentation, proven payments etc. That took a lot off of my desk and THAT is wonderful!
Pros
Its a basic, easy to use software for small office such as ours where everyone does everything. Customer Support has been awesome...even for the small questions.
Cons
To be honest, nothing comes to mind. I would say all aspects of the software that we use are fine.

Awful experience doing payroll for Nanny

Pros
Nothing. I have spent two weeks straight fighting with software with little guidance how to get all appropriate EINs and set up numerous taxes. I have had daily calls from the company when I haven't wanted them. I have made daily calls to them trying to resolve issues and am still stuck. I have waited for hours in the online chat queue. My employee has called them as well and was treated rudely.
Cons
Due to an error in setting up my nanny's bank account, my first two payroll checks didn't process. There are huge fees for this and my nanny still hasn't gotten paid. The lag in payment is 4 days and it took 6 days for SurePayRoll to notify us. After 14 days, I have yet to successfully process payroll. I am told daily about new fees I might incur due to not having correct tax numbers, employee worker's comp, etc. If I knew withholding taxes for a nanny would be this much of a headache, I might have risked COVID to use a daycare instead. Do yourself a favor and if this is your first experience setting up payroll for a single employee, go elsewhere! Already cost me $250 for one month, and my employee is very unhappily not even paid yet!

My experience has been great! Everything is done the right way with ease and cheaper than paying my accountant for payroll. Using this service I have my time to concentrate on my business. To do payroll takes less than 2 minutes every week.
Pros
super easy!!! I go online every week and with a click of a button my payroll is done. Payroll check is sent to my personal account early every Friday morning. At the end of the year any tax doc such as a w-2 can ve easily found and printed out for my accountant.
Cons
I have yet to find any problems in over 2 years

Terrible customer service, old tech

Easy to process a normal payroll with no deviations
Cons
You are required to use two-factor authentication every time you login, and the system is slow in recognizing the numbers as you type them. It gives you the option to "remember me" except this option doesn't work. A customer service rep told me that they didn't build this into the software, my browser offers it, except it's clearly designed with the same UI as their system. Additionally, you cannot do a password reset from the app, you must do it from a computer. And you can't copy/paste your temporary password, you have to type it...such weird and archaic usability.
Customer service is as TERRIBLE as everyone else has said. Minimum 40 minutes on hold even when you get a call back. My employee has been completely unable to login to the system for over a month, and tech support cannot pinpoint the problem. Customer service says they will escalate, and a week later I receive an email that says the exact same trite steps as they provide everyone on the first troubleshooting call.

Would not use them again unless it is well established they improve customer service.
Pros
Attractive UI and although prompts are often not that clear since they are poorly written, navigation is generally okay.
Cons
Customer service is the worst in the industry. It should not take three weeks for a payroll company to respond to an urgent request about a state government imposing late fees & penalties due to that payroll company missing a filing or filing improperly.
SurePayroll handles government interactions very poorly, and communicates with its clients about these interactions even more poorly.

Support Delays and Inaccuracies

Terrible. Support hold times are 90 minutes plus and I have had to talk to about 7 different people to try and get things done. We had a complete mess with transitioning of people from one company to another and they took months to sort it out. My overall experience has been very bad and the bounce from person to person within their team AND THEIR LACK OF INTERNAL COMMUNICATION is alarming. I would switch but I cannot chance them screwing up again and creating tax issues for my employees. Absolutely TERRIBLE experience every time I try and deal with them.
Pros
Easy to run once it is set up, it is quick to process a payroll.
Cons
The transition from our previous company to a new one was a disaster and SurePayroll was the one that assisted with it.

Software works good. However, once you leave the company, you no longer have access to anything!!! nothing. Nor do your employees. No tax information, no employee information. No payroll information at all. Nothing!!! not a good thing!
Pros
Easy to work. Nice to be on the road and produce payroll. But when you call for help. You'll be on the phone for a long time.
Cons
Software is good. Customer services not so good

Outstanding Customer Service

Pros
The software has a lot of capability and is easy to use. On those items that I don't understand, the customer service support is always very helpful in getting me what I need.
Cons
I don't have a specific item. I suppose the learning curve to use the software could be lessened by tutorials or other resources so that I don't have to call customer support as much.
