Secure access, sharing & file storage

About OneDrive

OneDrive is a secure access, sharing and file storage solution which enables users to store and share photos, videos, documents, and more anytime, anywhere via any device, including desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobiles. Offering a centralized platform, OneDrive gives users quick access to all of their photos and documents. OneDrive allows users to keep all of their favorite photos and videos safe, even if something happens to their device, with remote device wiping technology.

Users can also share files or entire folders, like photo albums, without attaching anything. Since OneDrive works with Microsoft 365, users can create, edit and share their documents easily. OneDrive supports other collaboration tools such as real-time co-authoring, which allow users to work with anyone inside or outside of their organization. Users can use built-in search and discovery tools to find relevant files quickly.

Native mobile apps for Windows, iOS and Android give users the flexibility to access and share files on the go, via any mobile device. OneDrive also supports a number of security features including device access rules, device reports and remote device wiping. Users can also track which files are being shared, and with whom. In-app sharing enables each employee to seamlessly share and set specific access permissions for their files, based on the organization’s settings.

Essential especially to backup work files.

My Microsoft 365 account included OneDrive, which was an excellent complement to the other software. To enter my files, I don't need to signed in to another service. It allows me to view my files from either computer or a smart device at any time at a low cost. The file structure is close to that of most personal computers, and it makes it simple for me to handle files, whether I'm copying, transferring, or changing their names. Even my massive drawing files open quickly and easily, allowing me to operate on quickly.

    Pros

OneDrive allows me to keep files on the cloud and retrieve them from whatever device, even when I'm not at the workplace. This comes in handy when I need to share files from my smartphone on social media, particularly on pages that are only available on mobile devices. I have a powerful CPU with plenty of storage, but I often build massive illustration and digital images that would start filling it if I do not have backup storage.

    Cons

It's nice to have my files with me everywhere I go, but each time I open a file, a copy is saved on my laptop. Until I uninstall it, this will gradually take up precious storage space. I didn't know it until my CPU was clogged with redundant files that took up a lot of bandwidth. It took me some time to find a way out how to safely clear the storage space.

OneDrive is an extremely fast and reliable cloud storage service. It has fixed the challenge of sharing data across teams working remotely and the fact that it is extremely user friendly is an added plus. It provides a great back up solution for all our data directly from the desktop.

    Pros

OneDrive is a superb cloud storage service that has fixed my storage and back up needs. Ability to save files directly from my desktop is just great, as well as giving me the ability to share files with my team members. It is also extremely fast and very reliable.

Honestly, we couldn't run our firm without it. We need a way to manage our large files without a server, and we need to also be easily able to share them. Most importantly, items sync up quickly most of the time and make them available for more than one person to work on items simultaneously.

    Pros

The ability to share files easily and manage multiple files without filling up my hard drive.

    Cons

Sometimes the sync messes up and creates duplicate filenames.

I use it as part of my 365 subscription. When you look at this tool overall it usable as a part of Microsoft 365 ecosystem. But if you dig deeper into features and options issues start to occur. It draws power from 365 users base not by it's own features and options.

    Pros

Well the software is functional to a degree. I found it easy to set up for basic usage, syncing some folders on pc on regular plain usage. Logging from office.com portal and accessing documents and files is also a great value. Sharing file with company and outside of company users is cool with cool predefined options which are helpfull.

    Cons

There is no advanced options for upload control. Few users can easily saturate internet connection. Also when you migrate user folder on windows pc to another drive numerous issues raised.
Also i had few issues where files would not simply upload to OneDrive even when connections is 300/100Mb.
There is no linux client which is forcing users to other services like Dropbox and GoogleDrive.
Android versions work better then Windows 10.

    Alternatives Considered

    Dropbox Business and Google Drive

    Reasons for Choosing OneDrive

End of support for EMC solution, it was included in Microsoft contract for 365 subscription

    Reasons for Switching to OneDrive

I did not. It was a part of Office 365 package, so we implement it as "already payed" solution.

I use it daily. I like that I can access it from anywhere and that it syncs automatically.

    Pros

I like that it is part of my Microsoft 365 subscription and is not any additional charge. It has a lot of space to use and even more for storage and automatically syncs and backs up for me.

    Cons

I was not a big fan to start because I was used to another service. So the transfer of files was not very smooth, in fact some files were completely lost.
