About Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project helps businesses plan projects and collaborate with one another from anywhere using tools such as task assignment, due-date tracking, dependency configuration, scheduling, business intelligence integration, and more. The solution helps users to streamline projects, resources, and portfolio management with integrated planning tools for project tracking. It is a flexible solution for project portfolio management (PPM) and everyday work, delivered through Office 365.

Project helps users execute projects using tools including built-in templates, familiar scheduling tools, and access to projects across devices to help project managers and teams stay productive. Businesses can evaluate and optimize project portfolios through seamless integration with Power BI, which provides advanced analytics and built-in reports.

Users can gain insight into how resources are used with features for resource management such as visual heat maps of capacity and resource usage, and robust resource analytics. With simplified task and time management, teams can enter updates from anywhere, offering greater executive oversight and facilitating global collaboration. The Project platform allows teams to utilize methodologies, including Agile and Waterfall, depending on their workflows and needs.

• Enhance collaboration with the ability to copy project information to Office applications such as PowerPoint or email and save important plans and details to Office 365 or SharePoint.

• Setup projects and assign team members to them, set start and finish dates, add dependencies, and define durations.

• Integrate Project with Microsoft Power BI to create interactive dashboards based on project metrics and drill down on performance.

• Manage Agile projects within Microsoft Project using Scrum and Kanban boards, as well as custom workflows and methodologies.

It is a beautiful Planning and Scheduling Tool that helps all size of organizations in carrying out/managing their day 2 day and long term projects.

Pros

If one knows the Planning and Scheduling Concepts, it is extremely easy to use this software to carry out planning/scheduling.

Cons

It has its own proprietary format. Though can be saved as PDF and shared but it would be better if it can be opened directly in different formats.

It’s really helpful for planning and managing projects, especially with the charts that show timelines clearly. Once I learned how to use it, I liked the features for tracking resources and generating reports.

Pros

how it helps you plan and organize projects effectively. The Gantt charts make it easy to see timelines and deadlines at a glance. It’s great for managing resources, so you can keep track of who’s working on what.

Cons

It can be a bit complicated for new users. The interface has a lot of features, which can feel overwhelming if you’re not familiar with project management tools.

MS Project is good for what it is, but is still lacking in areas

We are managing projects across our whole agency. The big problem we can solve is being able to view resource availability and project priority across all project simultaneously.

Pros

The myriad of features that it has when it comes to project management and tracking. At least if you have a single PM managing a whole project. It's possible to setup project with Sharepoint and PWA to allow for collaborative project access and the ability to share progress and having resources update tasks. There also tends to be a lot of plugins and support for Project.

Cons

The philosophy of MS Project is a little stuck in the past. There are too many project management software offerings between MS Project Desktop, Project Online, Planner that it's hard to decern what the use case is for each one. It would be great if they had some interaction between them. It would be amazing if Microsoft allowed planner tasks to roll up to Project tasks for updates.

Effective budget and cost management, Timely project completion

Another benefit of the MS Project is the fact it enables back up of files and documents and is cheaper to implement.

Cons

A major disadvantage is its not effort-able by the small enterprises & individual users
